2022 Tournament, August 26th - 28th

Old Edwards Club and GlenCove

Cashiers, NC

For the second straight year the Al was held at Old Edwards Club and GlenCove.  With a fully finished club house and night lighting installed by Al competitor Joey Wilson, players took part in Friday Night Lights at the club.  The first round of the Al was played under perfect conditions.  Strong play from Art Williams III led him to a day one lead at net +4.  Keith Guest and future Summer Hummer Chairman Adam Kinnard trailed closely behind at +5 with tournament regulars Jason Galloway and Field Asbury lurking at +6.  Day two had higher wind conditions and proved a tougher test.  After a poor first round showing, tournament founder Alex Williams showed grit by turning in the second best round of the day at net +3.  This proved too little too late as Jason Galloway turned in the round of the tournament at net +2 to win the coveted Red Jacket.

The Al Cup was closely contested, with Team Al jumping to a 5 to 2 lead on Day 1 Foursomes.  Team Brad charged back on the GlenCove Par 3 course, winning 4 points to end day one with Team Al leading 8-6.  Day 2 Singles saw Team Al come out strong with 9½ points to Team Brad’s 4½.  The final score was a resounding win by Team Al at 17 ½ to 10 ½.  Of note during singles play, Wade Scheuneman beat former Al Champion Arthur Williams IV 7&6 for what many people are calling the biggest upset in Al Cup match history.
